Cedar Grove Waterfront Project

The Cedar Grove Waterfront Project began as a small weekend shack in desperate need of major renovation. In addition, the owner had a desire to take better advantage of the spectacular waterfront view. The original structure was built in the late 1920s, with little concern for orientation or architectural integration with the site.

Over time, numerous additions to the core structure were made, producing a disjointed arrangement of interior spaces and an incoherent composition of exterior forms. The goals set forth for this project were the expansion of living space, revitalization of the kitchen and bathroom spaces, and the introduction of the waterfront scenery as the major organizing element, altogether creating a unified and contiguous whole.

Sullivan Blake’s objective for the Cedar Grove Waterfront Project was that every space needed to benefit from the dramatic natural environment the site had to offer. This was accomplished through the creation of a spacious two-story room as the primary core of the dwelling, to which all secondary spaced were joined.

The main space, containing the kitchen, living room and dining room, was defined by the dramatic window wall, which introduced the scenic landscape into the house. Additional space, comprised of a first floor guest room and loft master suite, was connected directly to the main space and the panoramic view.
