Towson Remodeling Project
The major driving force for the Towson Remodeling Project was to create a remedy for the lack of light and to integrate the dwelling with its surrounding landscape. Despite being situated in a scenic wooded setting, the existing structure took no advantage of the magnificent view or any outdoor light. In fact, the original design made the rooms inside seem dark and drab.
Our design solution for this project included the introduction of natural light through the placement of multiple skylights. In addition, we created a dramatic entryway with a “light tower” over the front hallway, and replaced the old door with an Art Deco stained glass door, which complimented the angles and dramatic diagonal lines of the contemporary structure.
In the kitchen, the removal of walls and replacement of old, dark-brown cabinets by simple white cabinets further aided in lightening the space even further, and added a modern, sophisticated touch. The beautiful new granite counter-top created a spectacle by mirroring the skylights above.
In summary, our design offered simple yet unique solutions to introduce much-needed natural light to the interior spaces, resulting in a dramatic effect.
